Digital Public Library of America (DPLA)
An American digital library project in which public libraries and research libraries participate. It provides access to over 10 million digital objects of various types, predominantly the result of digitalisation campaigns of works in the public domain, including governmental materials and other types of grey literature. It is situated at the historical Boston Public Library.
Directory of Open Access Book (DOAB)
A multidisciplinary meta-catalogue of academic level e-books published by institutional or commercial scientific publishers. The requisites for indexing in DOAB, specified by OAPEN Foundation in synergy with the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association, are as follows: the books are distributed with an Open Access licence; before being published, the books undergo scientific validation processes (peer review).
Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
A selected archive of peer reviewed e-journals in open access, equipped with a search interface that enables the limitation of the analyses to specific titles, disciplinary fields or publishers. A project curated by Lund University Library (Svezia).
Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani (Biographical Dictionary of the Italians)
Updated online version of the dictionary edited by Treccani in 100 volumes.
Early English Books Online (EEBO)
A complete-text collection in facsimile format of the literary and scientific texts (125,000 titles) published in English in the first centuries of the Modern Age (1473-1700) catalogued in the historical Short-Title Catalogue of Pollard & Redgrave (1475-1640) and Wing (1641-1700) and in the Thomason Tracts, a compendium of the titles published on the English Civil War between 1640 and 1661.
Included, among other things, are writings by Shakespeare, Marlowe, Spenser, Galileo, Harvey, Mercator, Vesalius, Newton, Calvin, Luther, Knox, Drake, Raleigh, Bacon and More.

Gutenberg Project

OAPEN Library is a multidisciplinary open-access archive of e-books; the project, which involves close collaboration with scientific publishers, is co-funded by the European Union within the eContentplus programme and is part of a no-profit foundation sited at the National Library of the Netherlands (The Hague).
OpenAIRE
A network of archives and periodicals that support the policies of open access. The project, created as a tool through which the European Community and the European Research Council incentivise and put into practice the policies of open access (FP7 and H2020 programmes), claims to be the tool of reference of European scientific communication.
It hosts not only publications but also theses, preprints, images, sound files, patents, primary research data, data related to funding, institutions and research personnel, and other data of European research. The output of SNS research studies funded with European Community grants also migrates to OpenAIRE.
OpenDOAR
Curated by the British inter-university consortium JISC, OpenDOAR is probably the most complete repertoire of academic archives in open access, indexed and searchable using a search interface refined by filters for scientific and geographical area and type of product.
Open Library of Humanities (OLH)
Direct access to the periodicals published by OLH, a no-profit organisation supported by an international consortium of libraries, which includes the SNS Library, that has the aim of supporting the open-access publication of works produced by the academic community of the humanities area.
Open Research Europe (ORE)
This EU project enables the rapid open-access publication in peer-reviewing mode of the results of research studies in all disciplinary areas funded by Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe and Euratom grants; the papers are retrievable in the database through a search interface.

A retrospective archive of academic periodicals in digital format. For each periodical the complete years' issues are available, from the first issue published up to 1990/2000.

A continually updated bibliographical database containing the complete indices of over 5000 periodicals with international cover in the sector of the humanities and social sciences disciplines. For each periodical the complete years' issues are available, from the first issue published up to 1995. For some titles, however, the indices of the subsequent years are also available.
In addition, Periodicals Index Online (PIO) is integrated through a system of links both to the data base Periodicals Archive Online (PAO) and to the JSTOR collections subscribed to by the Scuola Normale in order to be able to access directly the full-text citation of the articles contained in these databases.

ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global (PQDT) is a database containing over 2.7 million bibliographical records of theses discussed at the North American universities from 1861 to the present day, and at over 700 academic institutions worldwide. This resource, which covers the various scientific areas, also enables the full-text consultation of over 1 million PhD and master's theses published after 1997.
The documentation is available online for in-depth perusal of the specifics of the database.
The opening of the full text of the theses may not be immediate, on account of the size of the corresponding files.

A platform consisting of several citational databases covering all fields of scientific research, although the English language production of the STM area is prevalent. An open access multidisciplinary repository that enables researchers to deposit research documents, sets of data, research software, reports and any other digital object correlated to research. Developed at EU level within the European OpenAIRE programme and managed by CERN, it enables the assigning to each datum deposited of a DOI (Digital Object Identifier), which renders the archived objects easily citable.

Since the 1990s it has been a respected reference point, especially for mathematicians and physicists who, like many scientists of the Scuola Normale, deposit their works there.
INSPEC
A bibliographical database produced by the IET - Institution of Engineering and Technology, involving the fields of Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Engineering and Information technology. The database, which is updated weekly, covers the period from 1969 to the present day.
Inspec is hosted on the Web of Science platform and hence searches can be carried out that are integrated with the other databases available in WoS.

It enables the confirmatory data analysis of the materials and their re-use. Open Knowledgebase of Interatomic Models (OpenKIM)
An accurate repository of interatomic potentials and analysis to render reliable, reproducible and accessible the classic molecular simulations of materials. The contents are open source and referable generically to the area of the hard and applied sciences, with particular relevance for the sectors of Molecular Chemistry, Computer Science, Condensed Matter Physics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Materials Science, Optics and Engineering Sciences.
SciFinder ⁿ
An updated and enhanced version of SciFinder, a bibliographical and factual database enabling the consultation from a single interface through a variety of sophisticated search strategies (by subject, chemical structure, names of authors and organisations, chemical reactions, etc.) of the databases produced by the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). The disciplinary sectors covered are those of Chemistry, Biology, Medicine, Agrarian Sciences, Engineering, Materials Sciences and Physics. Access is valid using the same credentials as those utilised for SciFinder. For new recordings the form prepared by the publisher will need to be completed.

An online virtual library that offers rare texts in the most important editions and translations, rendered consultable by computer systems enabling searches at various levels. The project arose from the collaboration between the Istituto di Studi sul Rinascimento (the Institute of Renaissance Studies) and Signum - Centro di ricerche informatiche per le discipline umanistiche (Signum – Centre of IT research for the Humanities disciplines) of the Scuola Normale of Pisa.

A digital version of the homonymous work on paper in 19 volumes. correspSearch
A database that, by means of a federated search of various archives of correspondences, aggregates the metadata relating to sender, date, addresses and locality of despatch and of reception of the letters present in academic editions and publications in print or in online digital version. The metadata of the letters are provided by academic projects of various institutions in a standardised exchange format based on TEI-XML. Currently, the period of time of the correspondence data aggregated ranges from 1500 to the 20th century, with no geographical limits.

Manus OnLine (MOL)
A database encompassing the description and digitalisation (full and/or partial) of the manuscripts stored in Italian public, ecclesiastical and private libraries. The census, started in 1988 by the Istituto centrale per il catalogo unico e le informazioni bibliografiche (ICCU) (the central institute for the single catalogue and bibliographical information), aims at identifying and cataloguing manuscripts (Latin, Greek, Arabic, and others) produced from the Middle Ages to the contemporary age, including correspondence.
Mare Magnum
It contains the digitalised reproduction of the Mare magnum of Francesco Marucelli, a work in 111 volumes indexing seventeenth-century universal knowledge, dividing it by subjects, and the full text of the Indice del Mare magnum edited by Guido Biagi.

Mirabile : archivio digitale della cultura latina medievale
(Digital Archives for Medieval Culture)
A digital archive created by the Società Internazionale per lo Studio del Medioevo Latino (SISMEL) (International Society for the Study of the Latin Middle Ages) enabling searches both in the databases produced by SISMEL and in the main publications of the Edizioni del Galluzzo .
The databases consultable in Mirabile are: Medioevo latino (MEL): a bibliographical bulletin of European culture from Boethius to Erasmus, sixth to fifteenth centuries; Bibliotheca Scriptorum Latinorum Medii Recentiorisque Aevi (BISLAM): a repertory containing bio-bibliographical and name cards of Latin authors or those whose works are translated into Latin up to 1536; Medioevo Musicale (MEM): a bibliographical repertory of the studies on the musical culture of the Middle Ages between the fifth and fifteenth centuries; Compendium Auctorum Latinorum Medii Aevi (CALMA): a bibliographical repertory of the medieval authors whose works are datable within a time frame stretching between the end of the sixth century and the first thirty years of the sixteenth century.
