Registration and services available
Access to the Library is regulated by the Library rules that defines the user categories and their related rights of access to the services.
Identify your user category: expand the section relating to your profile to find out the procedures for access to the SNS Library; to find out what services you are entitled to, click on the section corresponding to your User group.
Institutional users (affiliated to the Scuola Normale Superiore)
- undergraduate students, PhD students, research fellows, lecturers, researchers, technical admin and library (TAB) personnel and guests staying for more than 30 days
- registration mode: automatic
- period of registration: equal to the period of affiliation; undergraduate students have the right of access to the services until the discussion of their SNS thesis up to a maximum of 14 months after the termination of their course
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: SNS affiliates
Guests of the Scuola Normale Superiore (staying for under 30 days)
- registration mode: at the request of the SNS hosting structure (centre, laboratory)
- period of registration: equal to the period of stay
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with consultation
Lecturers and researchers of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian)
- period of registration: 5 years for permanent personnel; 1 year for non-permanent personnel
- you have the right to the services defined for theUser group: Users with loan
Undergraduate students, research fellows of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian)
- period of registration: 1 year
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with loan
Lecturers and researchers affiliated to Tuscan universities or research centres
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian)
- period of registration: 5 years for permanent personnel; 1 year for non-permanent personnel
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with loan
Lecturers and researchers affiliated to Italian (not Tuscan) or foreign universities and research centres
If resident in Tuscany:
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian)
- period of registration: 5 years for permanent personnel; 1 year for non-permanent personnel
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with loan
If not resident in Tuscany:
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian)
- period of registration: 5 years for permanent personnel; 1 year for non-permanent personnel
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with consultation
PhDs, post-doc, research fellows affiliated to Tuscan universities and research centres
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian), accompanied by a specific guarantee from your lecturer for access to loans. The lecturer must send the guarantee from their institutional address to: ammissionibiblioteca@sns.it
- period of registration: 1 year
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with loan
PhDs, post-doc, research fellows affiliated to Italian (not Tuscan) or foreign universities and research centres
If resident in Tuscany:

If not resident in Tuscany:

Students of the three-year course and of the Master's Degree course of the Universities of Pisa and Florence of the MUR macro-areas 01, 02, 03, 05, 10, 11, 14
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian), accompanied by a specific guarantee from your lecturer for access to loans. The lecturer must send the guarantee from their institutional address to: ammissionibiblioteca@sns.it
- period of registration: 1 year
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with loan
Students of the three-year course and of the Master's Degree course of the Universities of Pisa and Florence of the MUR macro-areas 04, 06, 07, 08, 09, 12, 13
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian), accompanied by a specific guarantee from your lecturer for access to all the services but not to loans. The lecturer must send the guarantee from their institutional address to: ammissionibiblioteca@sns.it
- period of registration: related to the research needs (max 1 year)
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with consultation
Students of the three-year course and of the Master's Degree course of Italian (not Pisa or Florence) or foreign universities
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian), accompanied by a specific guarantee from your lecturer for access to all the services but not to loans. The lecturer must send the guarantee from their institutional address to: ammissionibiblioteca@sns.it
- period of registration: related to the research needs (max 1 year)

Students of the three-year course or students of university international exchanging programmes of the Universities of Pisa and Florence of the MUR macro-areas 01, 02, 03, 05, 10, 11, 14
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian), accompanied by a specific guarantee from your lecturer for access to all the services but not to loans. The lecturer must send the guarantee from their institutional address to: ammissionibiblioteca@sns.it
- period of registration: related to the research needs (max 1 year)
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with consultation
Librarians working at a university or research center or state library based in Tuscany
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian); the library verify that the requirements are met
- period of registration: 5 years for permanent personnel; 1 year (extendable) for non-permanent personnel
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with loan
Librarians working at a universityor research center or state library based in Italy (not Tuscany) or abroad
If resident in Tuscany:
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian); the library verify that the requirements are met
- period of registration: 5 years for permanent personnel; 1 year (extendable) for non-permanent personnel
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with loan
If not resident in Tuscany:
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian); the library verify that the requirements are met
- period of registration: s years for permanent personnel; 1 year (extendable) for non-permanent personnel
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with consultation
Users not included in the previuos categories
If resident in Tuscany:
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian). A declaration is required, preferably from the affiliated organization or company, or alternatively from the user (if not affiliated with any organization), specifying the user's status and the reason for requesting to consult the Library's holdings. You can register at the Library's discretion, with authorization issued by the Librarian or his/her delegate.
- to access the loan service the request must be accompanied by a specific guarantee from a SNS (or from other university) lecturer or by the prior authorization of the Librarian or his or her delegate
- period of registration: related to the research needs (max 1 year)
- you have the right to the services defined for the User group: Users with loan
If not resident in Tuscany:
- mode of registration/renewal/temporary permit: on request, by completing the appropriate online form (in Italian). A declaration is required, preferably from the affiliated organization or company, or alternatively from the user (if not affiliated with any organization), specifying the user's status and the reason for requesting to consult the Library's holdings.
