interbibliotecario

Interlibrary services

The interlibrary services include interlibrary lending (ILL) and document delivery (DD).

The Library is a member of NILDE, LIR: LibriInRete (the Tuscany library network), ACNP and ILLSBN.

For all the services, we remind you that in their use of the materials provided users are required to respect prevailing legislation regarding copyright; any infractions of the said legislation are in no way attributable to the Library.

Interlibrary services for SNS users

The service is reserved for SNS-affiliated users and is free.

Interlibrary lending (ILL)

To forward a request, take the following simple steps:

  • verify that the document is not already in the possession of our Library, by searching on our SEARCH catalogue, nor in the city area (Pisa for users of the Pisa site, Florence for users of the Florence site);
  • authenticate and access the form ILL/DD request available on SEARCH, and select the option Book;
  • complete the form in detail, bearing in mind that the provision of detailed information aids in the precise identification of the requested document;
  • follow the updates of your request in the Requests section of your Personal area on SEARCH;
  • please bear in mind that to request the same book through interlibrary lending and in acquisition at the same time is an incorrect and inefficacious practice for obtaining the document more quickly. In the case of double requests, the Library will assess the better option and fulfil only one of the two;
  • if you no longer need the document, you can cancel the request by sending an e-mail to ill1@sns.it.

When the document requested is available, you will receive notification via e-mail and you may collect it at the first-access desk of the Capitano site or, for Florence users, at the Palazzo Strozzi site.

Loans: loans are for a maximum of one month, although the conditions of the library providing the material may mean a shorter term.
Loans are personal: the materials on loan may not be used by anyone else but the borrower.
Users are required to look after the materials on loan to them; the Library reserves the right to demand reimbursement of any material that is returned damaged or that is lost.
Any materials not collected will be returned to the library that provided them on the expiry date, and no extension will be possible.

Extensions: this is possible only in exceptional cases; requests must be forwarded to ill1@sns.it at least one week before the expiry date of the loan.

Returns: if you are late returning materials, you will be suspended from the service for a period equal to the number of days overdue accumulated, with a possible temporary exclusion from the service or, in cases of repeated late returns, permanent exclusion.
