Springer Nature - Transformative agreement

The Springer Nature contract is unique and transformative for both the Springer Journals and Nature Journals components. The 'Nature Academic Journals' are now part of the portfolio of the 'Springer' component of this contract, following its general rules

Characteristics of the agreementAccess to subscribed journals of the Springer Nature publishing group and the possibility for authors affiliated with the Scuola Normale who are also corresponding authors to publish open-access articles.
Other publication costs, such as submission fees, color page charges, and overlength page fees, etc. remain excluded.

Journals in which publishing in open access is possibleFor Springer, on hybrid journals under the publishing brands “Springer”, “Palgrave”, “Adis”, “Nature. Academic Journals”.

Journals that transition from a hybrid to a full Open Access model during the term of the contract are also eligible.
Workflow for publishing in open accessThe corresponding author may choose to publish his or her work in open access only if at the submission stage, at the end of the peer review process, he or she follows the publication process proposed by the publisher on its platform and selects the Scuola Normale as organisation of affiliation and /or utilises his or her SNS e-mail address @sns.it and/or connects to a workstation connected to the SNS network.

The affiliation is verified and validated by the referents of the Scuola Normale.

The validation of the corresponding author takes into account the date of
acceptance of the article on the part of the publisher independently of the date of the first submission.
APCs coverThe agreement does not include a pre-established distribution of the APCs among the subscribing institutions.
The APCs are progressively used up until the number available at national level is exhausted.

Self-archiving mode (Green Open Access)After an embargo period of 6 months for Nature journals (journals on nature.com) and 12 months for Springer journals and Palgrave Macmillan journals upon first publication of their article, and subject to Springer Nature’s Accepted Manuscript Terms of Use authors may publish in perpetuity, on personal websites or in the repository of the Institution, at least the post-print version of their articles (reflecting the changes made in the course of the peer review process) and make them publicly available for the purpose of meeting the obligations resulting from research contracts and the regulations of the Institution and according to the obligations provided by national and European legal provisions; for clarity, the above limitations do not apply to articles published in OA.
