How to locate collections and materials in the library

In addition to the signage present in the physical spaces, the Guide to the localisations and the List of call numbers are two tools that help users navigate the Library’s branches (and the floors within each branch) and identify where the resources found through the SEARCH catalog are located, based on the information provided in the bibliographic record of the SEARCH catalogue.

Most of the physical collections are held in open stacks and are freely accessible; see On-site consultation.

Collections held in closed stacks are identified in the catalog by the label [scaffale chiuso] (i.e. close shelf) at the end of the location information (e.g., Pisa – Capitano – Barbi Library [scaffale chiuso] – Misc. Ba. 046.31).

For access to materials kept in closed stacks, please visit the Distribution of closed shelf material page.
