A. Torri Library - Online exhibition

Compiled by Renato Nisticò and Selene Maria Vatteroni

The volumes and papers of the ‘A. Torri’ Collection represent the most precious documentation of the life and work of the Veronese scholar, publisher, and bibliographer. This section—designed as a small ‘online exhibition’ featuring descriptive entries accompanied by images—aims to present some of the most significant copies in order to sketch a portrait of Alessandro Torri. From the autobiographical sonnet of the Sibillone and the Miscellanea 12 on Dante’s canto of Count Ugolino (which bears witness to Torri’s extensive network of contacts with contemporary intellectuals), to his own Dante publications (the Ottimo commento and the collection of minor works), and up to one of the most authoritative and up-to-date bibliographies of the era in his possession (by Giusto Fontanini), the copies illustrated here combine cultural-historical relevance with outstanding bibliographical value.
